5 out of 5 stars Great device   August 19, 2010

I have been using this device for just over 30 days now and I am seeing a slight reduction in my blood pressure. I'm relatively sure over time it will be an increasing improvement. It is essentially training me to breath a little deeper and slower. It appears it takes quite a bit of work to change your natural breathing patterns, but this certainly is doing that. Without the assistance of this device, I wouldn't have had the discipline to do what this is guiding me to do with my breathing. I also would not have been capable of breathing at the appropriate rate and depth. It also makes you take out some time periodically to sit down and relax, which is something those with high blood pressure are prone to fail to do. I'd recommend it. This device also helps reduce anxiety levels, though it doesn't make that claim. If you have a problem with anxiety.

4 out of 5 stars Was very skeptical, but seems to work   July 16, 2010

After a life time of "white coat" hypertension, it appeared, as my doctors predicted it probably would, that my hypertension was starting to occur even under normal conditions. I was someone who checked my bp fairly regularly, and while I was still not in frightening high range, I was growing concerned. I am fairly fanatic about working out at the gym, but apparently that wasn't sufficient. I knew the hypertension drugs might be necessary but I saw the toll (including serious medical toll) they took on my father, so I wasn't anxious to take them unless that was the only recourse. So, I was willing to shell out $300 on a natural alternative, even though I was fairly convinced it would not work. I have to say to my shock it really does work. Now I was someone whose upper bp was up to ranging from 130-140s, and now it is generally in the low- mid 120s. I am 59. My lower is in the 60-75 range. I assume someone might be able to accomplish the slower breathing exercises without such an expensive machine, but I probably wouldn't have. It does figure out your breathing pattern, and develop a musical cue system that works with how you breathe. Also i have to say that at a result, at times when i feel like I'm starting to get too anxious about something, I just start slowing my breathing down to calm myself and my bp. I hesitate to give it 5 stars, since I would like to see how I do over a long term, but so far so good. I don't know if it's the answer for everyone, but I decided to write this review because I think there are people who it can actually help. Even though I was a doubting Thomas, my superficial research before I bought it showed that even the establishment medical authorities endorsed it.

5 out of 5 stars Worth it for relaxation alone   May 31, 2010

The relaxing effect of the 15-minute exercise really does carry over to the rest of the day. In itself that's a health benefit for someone high-strung like me.

My unmedicated BP was high, but not kill-you-right-away high, so I took myself off the diuretics after using Resperate for a few weeks. Measurements with a good Omron monitor are now showing BP in normal range.

5 out of 5 stars I love the Resperate device!   April 29, 2010

I have been using Resperate for over two years. My blood pressure was getting high and my doctor started "the talk" about starting on medication. Being a "health nut" and not wanting to start on medication, I wanted to find a way to lower my blood pressure more naturally. Also, I had heard tales of woe from some of my friends and neighbors about the side-effects of their blood pressure medicine and I didn't want to go through all of that.

I did lots of research and found out about Resperate. I have been using it ever since. Actually, I use it every day and when I go on vacation, I take it in my carry-on. I don't ever want to be without it. As far as I am concerned, this is the best thing I have ever done for my health. I plan on using it for the rest of my life. I take my blood pressure reading once a week and it usually averages 118/68. I am a senior citizen, still working, and don't take any medication and I plan on keeping it that way.
