| Customer Reviews: Still to be determined July 25, 2010 Theo (Phoenix) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased this at COSTCO for about $38. The price is lower than any others on Amazon but more importantly, I was concerned about accuracy and consistency of the unit given the nature of the comments for this and other home BP monitors. I have since tried it and I have been getting different readings. The unit has an option to perform a three reading average which is suppose to be more accurate. I like the fact that you can connect to the PC (not Mac), the OMRON units seem to be more expensive overall and especially for their unit having that feature. The cuff on this unit can fit up to an 18" diameter whereas the OMRON needed an additional cuff for $19 to go all the way up to 17". One thing that I don't like about this unit is that it does not turn off (where the screen is blank. I found that when I place the unit back into the carrying case, its easy to hit the start button which causes the unit to take a BP measurement while in the case. The unit came with an AC adapter which is nice except it does not fit cleanly into the carrying case, but at least you don't need to run it on the 4AA batteries all the time.
Of course the true test of the unit is the accuracy of the reading. This is a function of learning how to place the cuff in the correct location and whether the unit itself is accurate or not. I plan on bringing the unit to the doctor's office and test it out using the doctors BP monitor to compare readings. Clearly this is too important to rely on without verification. Good luck....
Don't purchase this if you are running a Mac. June 23, 2010 Judith A. Peterson (Bloomington, IN USA) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Just purchased this cuff this afternoon at Costo. It's fine except that if you want to use all its features you have to be running a PC, not a Mac. I saw that on the box and bought it anyway never thinking it would impact the features of the cuff. I just thought the software would give further information which I decided I didn't need. After I got it home and read the instruction book, I found that to allow the machine to put readings in memory for TWO different people, you have to be running the software. You can see my problem. Mac users....beware. I'll be returning the cuff.
Excellent blood pressure monitor June 6, 2010 Pasquale (Hillsboro, OR USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've had this monitor for a couple of weeks now and I am very happy with it. It was actually a present from my wife after my last check-up where the nurse had measured around 140/90 and I knew that was what they call the "white coat syndrome" since checking the pressure using those machines you find at stores always reported something around 120/80. In fact, at least in my case, when I check the pressure the first time I frequently have higher pressure and pulse (I suppose because I am always active) but after a few minutes, when I calm down I get readings around 120/80 (lower than that in the mornings), which change only by a few points if I repeat even multiple times.
I was very surprised reading other comments complaining about inaccurate readings and I suspect this may be due to improper usage. Both my wife and I always get very consistent readings by just following the directions as for wearing the cuff properly, resting the arm with the cuff at heart height, etc. I also checked online and this machine is reported as being of medical quality by the British Hypertension Society.
Another great feature is the ability to store (up to 99) readings in memory for two separate people which we now use (so that my wife can show me how her pressure is always lower than mine ... ;-)). We also used the included software and USB cable to download the readings into the supplied program. This is really nice as you pressure readings gets displayed clearly in diferent ways and you can also print them and take them to the doctor with you.
I did spend a few minutes to undestand how to assign different users for me and my wife and link them to the monitor. But it was my fault as I should have installed the program with the monitor already connected.
So, all in all, this is a great machine which in my opinion has a great quality/price ratio!
Don't waste your money!!! May 5, 2010 Ms. Maritza M. Gonzalez (Puerto Rico) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This blood pressure monitor gives EXTREMELY inaccurate readings and also many, but MANY error messages! For example, Systolic 157 and Diastolic 121. That is just one of the MANY outrageous readings!!! I have two friends who have also bought this same monitor and they, too, have had the same problems. This monitor is extremely dangerous, because its readings represent a life or death situation. Microlife should recall this monitor and post a bulletin to inform all of its buyers to return it for a full refund.
Readings can vary by points ... April 30, 2010 BIGGSTR (Virginia) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This cuff is advertised as "clinically accurate". However, readings taken one after the other on different arms can vary up to 30 points, e.g. 161/98 to 129/82. We have never had this level of variance happened before on a blood pressure cuff. I'm guessing, but it appears that the cuff is very, very sensitive to where the marks are placed relative to the artery in the arm. But this doesn't matter: use the cuff and I have no idea what my blood pressure really is. Am I normal ... or, am I suffering from Stage 2 hypertension? The cuff confirms both.
